MICA Controls was founded with a clear vision: to build a company where the team could take full responsibility for the culture, the direction of the business, and—most importantly—the outcomes delivered to customers. After years of experience in larger organizations, our founders recognized the limitations that rigid policies placed on doing what was truly best for clients. They wanted the flexibility to adapt, to pivot when needed, and to meet customers where they were—delivering practical, effective solutions without compromise. At the core of MICA is a genuine commitment to the work and the systems we help build, driven by pride in what we deliver and a deep respect for the industries we serve.
In the early years, MICA focused on delivering strong technical solutions using the products we represented, backed by extensive real-world implementation experience. With backgrounds spanning large-scale petrochemical facilities to smaller well sites and lift stations, our team brought a level of practical expertise that quickly set us apart. Through exclusive partnerships with leading manufacturers such as Beijer Electronics, Dynamic Flow Computers, and HIMA (with exclusivity in Western Canada), customers began turning to MICA not just for products, but for complete solutions—particularly in specialized areas like HIPPS and BMS.
As the company grew, so did the demand for our engineering insight in functional safety and system design. In 2020, MICA worked alongside a team of industry experts in the development of Annex I for the updated functional safety code, helping implement a standardized, performance-based approach.
This growth also led us to expand beyond upstream oil and gas and petrochemical markets. With the opening of our Victoria office in 2015, MICA broadened its reach into municipal SCADA, water and wastewater, energy, rail, and defense sectors—continuing to evolve alongside our customers while staying grounded in our commitment to flexibility, expertise, and delivering real value.
